Obama Statement on Russert - Video

“We all I think have heard the news about Tim Russert. I’ve known Tim Russert since I first spoke at the convention in 2004. He’s somebody who overtime I came to consider not only a journalist but a friend. There wasn’t a better interviewer in TV, not a more thoughtful analyst of our politics and he was also one of the finest men I knew. Somebody who cared about America, cared about the issues, cared about family. I am grief-stricken with the loss and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. And I hope that even though Tim is irreplaceable that the standard that he set in his professional life and his family life are standards that we all carry with us in our own lives.”

Obama Sock Monkey - Racism?

"We don’t get enough of him at his public speaking events. Now you can have your very own TheSockObama™ 24/7!"

Man this is bad. Can we say racist? We all know the long history of the racist connotations of calling black people "monkeys". The Curious George T-shirt controversy didn't help and this doesn't either. We must get beyond things like this.

I wonder if we can get this site shut down? Let's try!....Email them HERE

J-LOBAMA? Lopez Talks to Obama's Staff

Strange. What's this about?

via a friend at People Mag -

Jennifer Lopez met with Barack Obama's staff this week as she toured Washington to talk about issues close to her heart.

"Tuesday afternoon, Ms. Lopez was on the Hill with her sister to meet with staff members of several senators to discuss issues she is interested in, such as health care and education," her rep says. "She did visit Obama's office, but the senator was not there. She did not meet him, but did discuss health care with members of his staff."

The mother of twins, Max and Emme, had a straightforward meeting, according to Obama's spokesman.

"She just came in for the meeting and departed," says the spokesman. He adds: "It was not campaign-related."

An Evening with Michelle Obama - $10,000

"the wannabe first lady." WTF?

via NY Post - "THE fashion world is jumping on the Barack Obama bandwagon with both Manolo Blahnik-shod feet. On Tuesday, Calvin Klein, Andre Leon Talley, Anna Wintour and Wintour's boyfriend, Shelby Bryan, are chairing An Evening with Michelle Obama, a $1,000-a-head fund-raiser at the Sikkema Jenkins art gallery on West 22nd Street. For $2,300, guests can get their photo taken with the wannabe first lady. For $10,000, there's a dinner after at the "home of Calvin Klein," which is probably his triplex in one of the Richard Meier buildings on Perry Street."

Muslims Really Like Obama

Looks like Obama is what the world needs to calm this "terrorism storm". I'm sure McCain and the Republican jargon will use this against him, but I say go ahead....LET HIM WIN! This is what we TRULY need in the post-9/11 world. Not division from the Muslim world but understanding and conversation.

The rumors that Obama is a Muslim aren't true, but that doesn't mean we can't live together? Does it?

Thomas Friedman has a great piece on this issue and how Muslim are agog over Obama.

Arab Muslims know that if America were to elect as its president some guy with the middle name "Hussein," it would mark a sea change in America-Muslim relations.

"This column will probably get Barack Obama in trouble, but that's not my problem. I cannot tell a lie: Many Egyptians and other Arab Muslims really like him and hope that he wins the presidency. "

"While Obama, who was raised a Christian, is constantly assuring Americans that he is not a Muslim, Egyptians are amazed, excited and agog that America might elect a black man whose father's family was of Muslim heritage. They don't really understand Obama's family tree, but what they do know is that if America - despite being attacked by Muslim militants on Sept. 11, 2001 - were to elect as its president some guy with the middle name "Hussein," it would mark a sea change in America-Muslim world relations."

Scarlett Johansson's Obama Crush

Politico has a great writeup of Scarlett Johansson's endorsement, emails with Obama and her enthusiastic support of the candidate.

"Johansson is somewhat shocked that he keeps up their back-and-forth correspondence. “You’d imagine that someone like the senator who is constantly traveling and constantly ‘on’ — how can he return these personal e-mails?” she asks. “But he does, and in his off-time I know he also calls people who have donated the minimum to thank them. Nobody sees it, nobody talks about it, but it’s incredible.” She adds, “I feel like I’m supporting someone, and having a personal dialogue with them, and it’s amazing.”

Hotmail Changes Obama to Osama in Emails

via Huff - According to Bill Hillsman, a partner at the firm, under Hotmail's system, if a user has the word Obama in his or her email, and then clicks the spell check button, the top suggested item that comes up is Osama -- as in, the leader of al Qaeda. This does hold not true for any other popular web email services, such as GMail, AOL, or Yahoo, which either don't offer replacement suggestions or suggest something other than Osama (like "Alabama").

Uncle Barack's Cabin - German Newspaper

Well, That's Nice.....Geez

via Spiegel - The German newspaper Die Tageszeitung has a reputation for leftist social sensitivity. All the more bizarre then was its choice of a cover to mark Obama's victory in the race for the Democratic Party nomination: a photo of the White House under the headline "Uncle Barack's Cabin."

The Berlin-based daily Die Tageszeitung is normally considered a bastion of political correctness. The paper, which was founded in 1978, has always seen itself as a left-leaning alternative to the mainstream press and is known for its outspoken positions on issues such as globalization, the environment and xenophobia in Germany.

Hence readers were all the more surprised to see on the cover of the Thursday edition of the "Taz" -- as the newspaper is commonly known -- a photograph of the White House under the headline "Uncle Barack's Cabin." "The White House in Washington: Will Barack Obama be the first black president to move in there?" read the picture caption.

Obama Speech 45 Years After MLK I Have a Dream

45 years later - We Have a Dream

Now that Barack Obama is the Democratic Nominee for President of the United States, we can move on to bigger and better issues.

The first big issue - Democratic Convention in Denver from August 25-28.

Wait a minute, that last date looks familiar. Yes, you are correct in assuming that August 28th is the date of Martin Luther King's famous I Have a Dream speech in Washington, DC.

This will be the day that Barack Obama will give his acceptance speech in Denver, CO. I don't think it could be better coordinated if we tried. Yes we can and Yes we will have a dream. Together.

Below is the video of Obama speaking at Martin Luther King's church.

Obama Bike Ride Around Chicago

WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama joined family and neighbors for a bicycle ride along the shores of Lake Michigan on Sunday.

Obama, who last week claimed the Democratic presidential nomination, capped his victory with a quiet, long weekend at home in Chicago.

The Illinois senator and his wife, Michelle, rode to a neighbor's house with their daughters, Malia and Sasha, on Sunday and the group then headed out for the ride along the scenic lake shore. But the outing was cut short by a downpour.

Obama's brief respite from the campaign was scheduled to end Monday with a speech in Raleigh, N.C., and an evening fundraiser in St. Louis. The speech will launch a two-week tour of the country focused on economic issues.

Condi Rice Gratified by Obama Win

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice pronounced herself "gratified" and unsurprised by Sen. Barack Obama's win in the Democratic presidential primary during an interview at the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure in Washington, D.C., today.

"As an American, it's a great thing. As a black American, it's a great thing. Our country's extraordinary. We've overcome a lot," she said. "And I'm very gratified, but not surprised."
